Kuala Lumpur to Beijing
Fly to Beijing, with a meal on board.
- Day02
Tiananmen and the Forbidden CityB, L, D
Tiananmen Square and the Monument to the People’s Heroes, with the Great Hall of the People and the National Museum alongside.
The Forbidden City, home to the Ming and Qing emperors.
Wangfujing, and Heping Guoju, a retro food hall of old Beijing snacks.
The Forbidden City closes on Mondays. On those days, or when tickets run out, it is replaced by Prince Gong’s Mansion and Jingshan Park, with its view over the palace roofs.

Gubei Water Town and SimataiB, L
Two hours to Gubei Water Town, a canal town built below the Great Wall: an old distillery, a dye house and the family halls.
The Simatai Great Wall, one of the few stretches kept in its original Ming form, climbing a steep ridge.
The Great Wall water and light show, and a drone display, weather permitting.
The Simatai cable car is not included.

Back to Beijing: the hutongsB, L, D
Shichahai, the lakes of old Beijing, and Yandai Xiejie, one of the city’s oldest lanes.
The Drum and Bell Towers from outside, and Gulou East Street.

Shougang Park, an old steelworks turned Winter Olympics site, with its Big Air ski jump.

The Temple of Heaven: the Circular Mound Altar, the Echo Wall and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests.
Qianmen Street and the Zhengyangmen Gate.
Beijing Fun, with the Starbucks flagship and Page One bookshop, and the lanes of Yangmeizhu Xiejie.
